Meeting on Response to the Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak

High-level Meeting on Response to the Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak
Thursday, 25 September 2014, 11:00 – 13:00
Conference Room 2, Conference Building, United Nations, New York

The current outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in West Africa is unprecedented and has been declared a public health emergency of international concern. Actions have been taken
by governments, communities, partners and the United Nations teams in the affected countries. Contributions to the emergency are being made on a daily basis. This includes muchneeded financial assistance, equipment and personnel.

Despite these efforts, the outbreak is racing ahead of the response. The governments of the countries most affected have asked the United Nations to assemble a global coalition to stem the outbreak. To do this, our collective response must be based on rapid decision-making and swift executive action reaching the countries and peoples in need. The challenges we are facing in the coming weeks and months are enormous.

A Global Ebola Response Coalition, made up of Member States, non-governmental organizations and other partners will primarily support the people and governments in the affected countries. It is tasked with a massive scale-up of the support and assistance currently being delivered on the ground.

The Secretary-General’s High-level Meeting on Response to the Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak, Thursday, 25 September 2014, 11:00 – 13:00, will bring together global leaders to take stock of where we are today in our efforts to support the affected countries as they combat the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease. The meeting aims to pinpoint key priorities and to mobilize additional resources to contain and stop the spread of the virus, treat those who are infected, ensure essential services, preserve stability and prevent outbreaks in other countries.
