Comprehensive review of the whole question of peacekeeping operations in all their aspects: report of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) (A/73/525/Add.1) - Item 56

Under rule 66 of the rules of procedure, the General Assembly decided not to discuss the report of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) which was before the Assembly.

The General Assembly adopted the draft resolution recommended by the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) in paragraph 6 of its report (A/73/525/Add.1) (resolution 73/293).

The General Assembly thus concluded its consideration of agenda item 56.

Election of members of the Committee for Programme and Coordination: note by the Secretary-General (A/73/608/Add.1) - Item 116 (a)

The General Assembly resumed its consideration of sub-item (a) of agenda item 116.

The General Assembly decided to proceed to the election on the basis of dispensing with the secret ballot.

Since the number of State nominated from among the Latin American and Caribbean States is equal to the number of seats to be filled for that group, Paraguay was declared elected as a member of the Committee for Programme and Coordination for a term of office beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2021 (decision 73/410 B).

The General Assembly was informed that the Economic and Social Council further postponed the nomination of one member from the Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2020 and one member from Western European and other States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2021.

The General Assembly thus concluded this stage of its consideration of sub-item (a) of agenda item 116.

A High-level plenary meeting, to be known as the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, will be held pursuant to General Assembly resolution 72/243 of 22 December 2017.

The opening plenary meeting (4th plenary meeting) will feature statements by:

the President of the General Assembly

the Secretary-General

the Chair of the African Union Commission

the President of the Republic of South Africa

the Prime Minister of Ireland

a Representative of The Elders (eminent person)

the Secretary-General of Amnesty International (civil society representative)

Letters from the President of the General Assembly, dated 7 August 2018, 11 September 2018 and 14 September 2018, were sent to all permanent representatives and permanent observers.

Delegations wishing to be inscribed on the list of participants are requested to do so through the e-deleGATE portal.

A provisional list of speakers was circulated on 13 September 2018, based on inscription received by 12:00 on that day.

Delegations are encouraged to observe the time limits of three minutes for statements by individual Member States and five minutes for delegations speaking on behalf of a group of States.

Should there be any speakers remaining on the list, there will be an opportunity for them to deliver their statements at a later date, following the conclusion of the general debate on 1 October 2018.
