High-level event for the closing of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages

High-level event for the closing of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages - A/RES/73/156

The meeting is open to Member States, Observers of the General Assembly, United Nations entities, indigenous peoples and non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.

 The list of speakers will rotate between Member States and Observers of the General Assembly and representatives of the seven socio-cultural regions of indigenous peoples.

 Delegations are encouraged to observe the time limits of 3 minutes for statements by individual Member States and 5 minutes for delegations speaking on behalf of a group of States.

 Representatives of the seven socio-cultural regions of indigenous peoples are invited to speak for 5 minutes each. 

 Observers of the General Assembly and other United Nations entities will also be given the opportunity to speak for 3 minutes each.

 The list of speakers is open.

 There will be free seating with designated generic seats for Member States, Observers of the General Assembly, United Nations entities and indigenous peoples on a first-come, first served basis.

 A letter from the President of the General Assembly, dated 2 December 2019, was sent to all permanent representatives and permanent observers.
